2016 Pantone Colours of the Year

SS16-Colour-Trends-RquartzSerenityFor the first time ever Pantone has chosen to feature two colours as “colour of the year”, Rose Quartz and Serenity. The last time Pantone selected a muted colour was Sand Dollar in 2006.

The mood this year is more relaxed and less turbulent. Warm rose and cool blue have a balancing effect each other and blend together well. Soft pink tones are composed, compassionate, and persuasive. Lighter tinted blues reflect wellness, order, and peace.

These hues bring together two gender specific colours. This is the fashion industry’s more gentle approach to the equality issues that have been prevalent in 2015 such as “He for She”.

People are becoming more comfortable with expressing themselves using their clothes and accessories. This could be a sign that we’re farther along with embracing gender equality, but also looking to focus less on negativity and the current state of the global economy.
