The blurring line between fine and faux
Is it real or fake? Is often a question we ask ourselves when we see jewellery. Is it fine jewellery? Quality costume jewellery? Or fad jewellery that will be quickly discarded into the dark recesses of a jewellery box.

In the 1930’s costume or fashion jewellery became an economical alternative to it’s expensive high-end sister. This new category of jewellery started to emerge and gradually increased in popularity. But fine and fashion never mingled until the last couple of decades.

Mix and match
A slew of celebrities are now mixing and matching high-end with artisan and fashion jewellery. Michelle Obama continues to fuel the fading division between fine and faux. Some yellow gold lovers are now occasionally jumping the fence into the realm of white gold and fine silver. It’s now chic to mix styles, price ranges and metals. And why not? You should be able to buy the jewellery you adore and be true to your own creative expression.

Fine-fashion jewellery
Between the two are fine-fashion jewellery designers like me, bringing fashion jewellery up a notch. This type of jewellery brings together the best of both worlds, quality workmanship and affordable metals such as sterling silver and gold-fill. Now the twain shall be blended, inventive Artisans are creating a new middle ground in fresh and exciting ways. Even big name brands are embracing this new hot category. The future promises to be sizzling with cool sterling silver and warming gold-filled pieces. Fine-fashion jewellery anyone?
